It was nice to get to meet some of the new people joining the BAPP course on the welcome back meeting on the 06/02/21. And I hope to continue to get the opportunity to see and speak with you all on the discussion groups in the future.
Onto module two …
The thrust of module two will be, in essence, a plan and the preparation required for a professional inquiry to help deepen my understanding of my professional practice that I will conduct in module three. As performers we already have the discipline and professionalism to plan something, our livelihoods depend on it. My concern for this module is; will that skill be transferable in an academic setting? Also, how well will I be able to articulate my plan from the thoughts in my head to readable academic paper?
Alice Pettini did a great blog on the similarities between preparation as a performer and prepping for a professional inquiry. Check it out here.
Of course, in module one we learn about transferable skills within our professional practice and how that can be transferred to skills outside of a performing environment. The key here will be utilising my knowledges to assist me in areas where I am out of my comfort zone e.g., academic writing.
Foreseeing the increased workload module two will be bringing me I want to increase my usage of the BAPP community as a resource. This term I intend to delve deeper into the blog community and contribute my ideas more. Additionally, I have more thoughtfully planned my time and set myself goals for study and activities that will be useful when it comes time to writing my essays.
If anyone from module three is reading this I would really appreciate any advice that you could give, or things that you learned from module two that you wish you knew going into module two.
See you all in the discussion skypes x

Hi Harry! I loved reading your blog, you seem super prepared! I am also concerned that I will not be able to transfer my thoughts into an academic setting, but all we can do is think and act positively. Reminding myself of transferable skills has helped me a lot this week. At least we won't have the distractions that come with the boys dressing room lol x
ReplyDeleteYes! Dont have any of those sort of distractions x
DeleteHi Harry, I really enjoyed your post. And so nice to connect with a fellow NBS graduate!! I agree we can draw a lot on transferable skills and sometimes we do this without even knowing. I think Module 1 taught me to focus on what you want to express and begin by expressing it however makes sense to you (don't start from a place of pleasing other people or speaking their language, eg. academics, and once you can express it to yourself, look at how you might translate that). You seem to have a good plan for using your time in the term ahead and I look forward to seeing how your ideas develop x
ReplyDeleteYes! I love meeting NBS survivors. That is an interesting method of approaching how I can articulate my ideas; by translating from a way that I easily express myself. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me x
Deletehi Harry, I feel the same about academic writing, i think it is a struggle to put thoughts down onto paper so that others can understand them. I agree it is a good idea to use this community for support so you don't feel as alone throughout this process!
ReplyDeleteHi Katie,
DeleteI really struggled in my first module to write my academic papers. It took me so long to find a way of writing that suits me. But i suppose that is what the journey through BAPP is about: learning who you and your practice are.
Hi Harry, i can say that i defiantly struggled with module 1 i am not an academic girl i was glad to hear that others are finding this module 2 a struggle too because i am too! i was so thankful to get comments from other students and i was finding blogs very helpful
